LATEST HEADLINES
Boys and Girls Soccer Fall in Regional Finals


BOYS SOCCER
The Highlander Boys Soccer Team lost 3-1 to Klein Saturday in the Regional Final. Taylor Mowery scored the lone goal for the Highlanders, who fell in the regional final for the third year in a row. On Friday, the team defeated Allen in the regional semifinal game. The Woodlands was able to win a shootout for a 1-0 victory. Thomas Vage made the final save for the Highlanders to seal the win. The Highlanders finish the season 21-3-3.


GIRLS SOCCER
After erasing a 3-0 deficit to force overtime, the Lady Highlander Soccer Team fell to Plano East in a shootout. Olvia Kintigh, Jackie Graves , and Molly Missimer each scored second-half goals in the regional final game. On Friday, the team defeated Allen to advance to the championship game. The girls finish their season at 24-2-2.


Tennis
The Highlander Tennis Team had an outstanding showing at the district tennis tournament this week. The boys team captured the district title. Overall, 8 Highlander athletes qualified to compete in the regional tournament. In girls singles, Jackie Fisher finished second to qualify. In boys singles, Zach Martinez won the district title. In boys doubles, Tomas Salazar and Brian Phillipose placed second. In mixed doubles, Eddie Konrad and Vivian Carillo took the district title with Nate Lemmons and Natalie Houle coming in second.


GIRLS GOLF
The Lady Highlander Golf Team won the district 15-5A title this week, easily defeating second-place Magnolia by 43 strokes. Gina Bortoletto finished second individually, followed by Taylor Kilponen in 3rd place. THe team will next compete in the region II tournament.


BASEBALL
The Highlander Baseball Team rebounded from their loss last Friday to defeat Conroe 10-0 on Wednesday. The team is now 7-1 in the district and remains alone in first place.


SOFTBALL
The Lady Highlander Softball Team lost 6-0 to Oak Ridge Tuesday night to fall into second place in the district standings. The team will travel to Conroe Friday night.


FOOTBALL
The Highlander Football Team lost to Westfield in the first round of the playoffs. The team ends its season at 3-8.


BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The Highlander Boys Cross Country Team won its 14th state championship at the 2007 State Meet. Layne Nixon led the team with an overall 6th place finish followed by Richie Spearman's 8th place finish. Mike Golden also placed in the overall top 10 with a 10th place finish. Tim Wang, Reed Connor, Bryce Young, and Drew Butler rounded out the championship team. As a team, The Woodlands finished with 70 points, edging out second-place Southlake Carroll by 6 points. Cedar Park finished a distant 3rd.


GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
The Lady Highlander Cross Country Team finished its outstanding season with a 7th place finish at the 2007 State Championships. Sarah Andrews led the team with an overall 5th place finish. Samantha Thompson, Shawn Dalglish, and Elisabeth Creasman also finished in the overall top 50. Nevena Pilipovic Wengl, Margo Lyons, and Kate Andropoulos also ran as part of the state-qualifying team. Southlake Carroll won the girls state title with 70 points. The Lady Highlanders finished with 173 points.


VOLLEYBALL
The Lady Highlander Volleyball Team's season ended with a second-round playoff loss to A&M Consolidated. The team finished 2nd in the district and defeated Klein in the first round of the state playoffs.


TENNIS
The Highlander Tennis Team finished second in the district and advanced to the Regional Tournament. At regionals, the Highlanders were able to win its first round match before losing to eventual region champs Klein 10-6.


BOYS GOLF - STATE CHAMPIONS
The Highlander Boys Golf Team finished what they started on Friday, by winning the State Championship. Fort Worth Paschal rallied to tied the Highlanders after the last hole. However, The Woodlands was able to claim the title on the first playoff hole. The State Championship Team consisted of Broc Raymond, Chris Walker, Ross Mizell, Chris Causey, and Gino Parrodi. This was the fourth state title for the Highlander Boys Golf Team and the second state title of the year for The Woodlands (Boys Cross Country).


TRACK AND FIELD
Four Highlander Track Athletes competed at the State Meet in Austin this past weekend. Alex Neff placed 2nd in the 3200 and 4th in the 1600. Reed Connor also earned a medal by placing 3rd in the 3200. Andrew Linebarger finished 7th in the Triple Jump. On the girls side, Kristin Schultz earned a bronze medal in the high jump and placed 4th in the 300 hurdles.


WRESTLING
Eric Spujt was recently named a member of the All-American High School Sophomore Team after placing third at nationals. Spujt had previously won the state title back in February.


SWIMMING
The Highlander Swimming Teams had a strong showing at the State Meet in Austin. The Lady Highlanders finished second in the team standings behind Austin Westlake. Kara Cook and Drew Livingston each won state titles in diving. Kelsey Admundsen won a total of four medals. Kelly Flynn, Amanda McClellen, and Kalyn Admundsen also earned two medals apiece. As a team, the boys finished 8th overall.
